BA - Honours Courses
Besides courses in their main subject, students for the BA Honours Programme will be required to take 4 Credit Courses and one Qualifying Non-credit Course as follows:
  • One Credit Language Course
  • One Qualifying Language Course
  • One Interdisciplinary Course and
  • Two discipline Centered Courses
    • In the first year a student has to opt for courses under headings 1, 2 & 3.
    • In the second year a student shall offer two Discipline Centered Courses out of the various options offered by the College.
    • Each course carries 50 marks with 38 marks assigned to the Annual Examination and 12 marks to Internal Assessment.
    • The pass mark for the Qualifying Courses is 36 percent. A student has to pass in the Qualifying Course to be eligible for the Honours degree; however, the marks in this course will not be counted towards the final division awarded. Internal Assessments will be held for Credit Courses but not for the Qualifying Course. The Qualifying Course in Hindi and English is offered at two levels, higher and lower. Students will opt for the higher or lower course depending on the level to which they have studied the language in school.
    • Students enrolled in English Honours, Hindi Honours and Sanskrit Honours must opt for a Credit Language Course other than that of the main course, or an Interdisciplinary Course. The Qualifying Language Course for such students has to be a language other than the language of the main discipline as well as the one chosen for the Language course for credit. They can also opt for the specially designed courses by their parent departments.

BA Honours - English
Admission will be on the basis of marks in English and the aggregate of best four subjects in Class XII. Students from the Science and Commerce Streams will be admitted at 5% higher than students from the Humanities and Arts Streams.

Eligibility : Students must have passed Hindi as a Compulsory or Elective Subject in Class XII. Only those students who have either passed English in Class XII or passed English in Class X with Sanskrit will be admitted to the course.

Eligibility : Students must have 45% in the aggregate and 55% in Sanskrit in Class XII or 60% marks in Sanskrit in Class X and 45% marks in the aggregate in Class XII.

Eligibility : Students seeking admission to BA Honours History should have studied History in Class XII. Students from the Commerce or Science stream should have 60% marks in Social Studies in Class X and students with vocational subjects will be considered for admission if they have secured 75% marks in History.

BA Programme
Students opting for the BA Programme will be required to take 12 papers over 3 years. The options available to them are as follows:
  • Discipline Courses :
    Students have to opt for 6 papers in 2 Disciplines (3 + 3) out of the following:
    English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Political Science, History, Economics, Family & Child Welfare, Office management & Secretarial Practice, Computer Applications and Music.
    Note: Discipline Courses in English, Hindi and Sanskrit will be offered only if at least 20 students opt for the course.
  • Language Courses :
    Students must opt for 4 papers in 2 languages out of which 2 will be in English and 2 will be in Hindi/Sanskrit/Punjabi. The papers in English will be taught one each in the first and second year. The papers in Hindi/Sanskrit/Punjabi will be taught in the first and third year.
  • Foundation Courses :
    Students must opt for 1 Foundation Course out of the following, to be taught in the second year:
    • Contemporary India
    • Human Rights, Gender & Environment and
    • Language, Literature and Culture
  • Application Courses :
    Students must opt for 1 Application Course out of the following in the third year:
    • Mass Communication (English/Hindi)
    • Computer Applications
    • Banking and Insurance
    • Family and Child Development
    • Legal Literacy

Options For The BA Programme
Family & Child Welfare :
This course aims at imparting various skills to students so as to empower them to take up self employment programmes. After completing the course students can be employed as pre-school teachers, creche workers or with NGOs besides taking up self employment.

Candidates who have studied Child Development in Home Science or Sociology or Psychology at +2 level are eligible to apply. Students with a Science backgroung can also apply.

Office Management & Secretarial Practice :
Students offering this subject are taught Hindi, English, Shorthand and Computer Fundamentals with Office Management. This is a job-oriented course which helps students in getting better placement in offices, business firms and public sector enterprises. Students must have passed English in Class XII. Students who have studied shorthand and computer typewriting (English) as one of their subjects in school or students who have studied commerce will be given preference.

Music :
Students who want to seek admission to the BA Programme with Music as one of the subjects will have to give a performance. Preference will be given to students who have studied music as a subject in Class X or XII or have a diploma/certificate from a recognized institute. Trials will be held on the date notified in the admission schedule.

Students who wish to join post-graduate classes must register their names in the Arts Faculty Building, University of Delhi, on the date/s to be notified by the University. The names of candidates selected for admission will be notified by the University and they will be admitted to the College on production of the admission slip issued by the University.
