Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Bharati College
Date: 25th September 2014

In response to the call given by the Hon?ble prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched at Bharati College by the Principal, Dr (Mrs) Promodini Varma and an enthusiastic bunch of students and teachers on 25th September 2014 in the presence of Mr Pawan Mheta, Under Secretary, Ministry of Human Resource Development. Mrs Archana Dixit, Associate Professor, Department of Economics has been appointed Nodal Officer to oversee the effective implementation of the programme. A meeting with the zonal office of the MCD has also been fixed for Friday, 26th September to chalk out ways in which this programme can be taken to the community at large.

A day prior to the launch a massive awareness drive was undertaken through posters, social networking sites and word of mouth in the college. On the 25th morning, students were divided into groups and they personally cleaned every nook and corner of the college. Special attention went into ensuring cleanliness of areas like the canteen, library, toilets and the college lawns which are the favourite haunts of students and therefore more prone to littering.

Programme for 2nd October 2014

To reach out to the Community we have a list of activities which we intend carrying out on 02nd October 2014. A Nukkad Natak performance at District Centre Janakpuri to spread awareness and sensitizer the community at large. Slogan Writing Competition to be held in the college to promote awareness among students regarding cleanliness. Bag Picking Initiative by the students in the jhuggis/shops and markets near the college.

Activities for the Rest of the Month:

From 13th October 2014 onwards till the end of the month we will carry forward the ongoing cleanliness drive. We hope to put up a Nukkad Natak performance on cleanliness at Tihar Jail as well as the residential colony in the neighbourhood of the college. We also intend to give further impetus to the Cleanliness Drive through thought provoking declamation contests, discussions, and by organizing extempore activities on the necessity of keeping our surroundings clean and to inculcate a sense of public hygiene. As part of the Eco Club Activities, the college is already engaged in the ?greening? of the campus wherein we use only self produced organic compost.

Long Term Plans

We do not intend to let the campaign lapse once this drive is over. We intend to institute a prize for those who display a sense of civic responsibility within the College and carry out, on a regular basis sensitizing programmes and drives for cleanliness in our area. Students from both, the NSS and the NCC, will be roped in for the effective implementation of the programme.
